Part 2 · a server
5v5 server 5v5
The ranked queue, a match start to finish, your rating and ranks, and the commands that work here.
2.1 What the 5v5 server is
Only the 5v5 queue plays here: the people queueing in the app, and the 10 of a match being drafted, vetoed or played. Anybody else can connect, and watches from spectate. Matches are run by Get5, 5 against 5, on 128 tick.
Between matches the server sits in warmup on a full map: somebody in the queue picks a side and plays it, anybody else is held in spectate and told what to do.
2.2 A match, start to finish
- Queue. Press Find match on the Play page. The queue sits in the app's top bar wherever you go, and the app tells you when it fills, even with the window closed.
- Match found. When 10 are in, everybody gets Accept and 30 seconds. Anybody who does not accept is taken out of the queue, and the rest keep their places.
- Captains. For 15 seconds everybody names up to two of the others, never themselves. The two named most are the captains. The lower-rated captain is Team 1 and picks first.
- Draft. The captains pick their teams, 15 seconds a pick, in a snake: 1, 2, 2, 1, 1, 2, 2, so the first pick is paid back.
- Veto. The captains ban the 7-map pool (Ancient, Anubis, Cache, Dust II, Inferno, Mirage and Nuke) down to one: 3, 2 and 1 maps a turn, Team 1 first, 15 seconds a turn. A captain who runs out of time bans at random. A captain already in the game gets the veto as a menu there, and
!vetobrings it back. - Side. Team 2 picks the side to start on, to even out Team 1's first pick.
- Play. One button starts CS:GO and puts you on the server. During the warmup,
!previewshows the two teams compared. - Level at the end? When regulation ends level, each side gets 15 seconds to vote in the game: 1 for overtime (first to 4 of 6 rounds) or 2 for sudden death (the next round wins). A tie, or no votes, is overtime. An overtime that ends level asks again.
- After. The app plays the match back: your rating counting up, a new tier, the ladder. The match page has the full scoreboard and the story of the match, the News writes it up, and the best moments become clips.
2.3 Staying in the queue
- Close Rush completely for 3 minutes and you leave the queue.
- Leave Rush in the tray without opening its window for 60 minutes and you leave the queue too.
- Every 45 minutes in the queue, Rush asks Still in? No answer in three minutes and you are out.
- Playing on one of the servers keeps you in, app or not.
2.4 Invites and private lobbies
- Invite a friend into the queue with you from Friends or the Online list. They get thirty seconds to say yes.
- A private lobby is a queue of its own behind a six-letter code or a link. Anybody with the code can join. It plays on this server like any match and is rated like any match, one match at a time. The owner and some of the staff can make one.
- A lobby stays open for a rematch with the same code until it has sat idle for 120 minutes or is closed.
2.5 Rating and Elo
A new player starts at 1000. When a season closes, everybody's rating moves halfway back to 1000 for the next one. Only a finished 5v5 is rated.
- The result sets the points, your game sets your share. Winning or losing decides how many points your team gains or loses. Your own game decides your part of it: kills, rounds survived, multi-kill rounds, damage a round, rounds you made count, opening duels and clutches. The match page shows it as your Rating, 1.00 being an ordinary game.
- Only a game better or worse than your rating expects moves your share. A win always gains at least 1 point, and a loss always costs at least 1.
- Beating a stronger team pays more, and losing to a weaker one costs more.
- A no-show is not rated. Leave early, playing under 70% of the rounds, and a loss costs you at least 1.3 times your team's.
- A match with a substitute pays 50% of the usual points, except to the player taken out, who is rated in full.
- A draw is half a point in the Elo sum: the underdog gains a little and the favourite loses a little.
2.6 Tiers
Your rating puts you in a tier, shown as a badge by your name. You are placed after your first rated match.
| Tier | From |
|---|---|
| Apex | 1175 |
| Diamond | 1105 |
| Platinum | 1035 |
| Jade | 965 |
| Steel | 895 |
| Bronze | 825 |
| Iron | Below 825 |
2.7 Skill groups
The game's own ranks, Silver I to the Global Elite, show how well you play rather than how often. They come from your Rating over every 5v5, your last twenty or so games counting most. You get one after five 5v5s, and it does not reset with the season.
